Scarves, Scarves, Scarves! October 16, 2009

Okay, so I was thinking the other day, about how I am one of the select few people at Groves making use of one of the most brilliant accessories ever invented:  THE SCARF.  Please people; do not be afraid of scarves!  They are actually the easiest and most chic way to add a little somethin’ somethin’ to a really boring school outfit.  It just gives it that extra mmpf, you know?  Well, I went around Birmingham trying hard to find the best scarves at lots of different prices, here’s the A-list:

  • White beaded bottom scarf at Anthropologie – $58
  • Flash Accessories black and white flower patterned light knight scarf – $39
  • Lanvin large gray knit scarf at Tender – $435
Atwater Striped Scarf from Roots in Merlot

For men, there were not many options.  Fortunately, there’s Roots, which carries an amazing plaid, light knit scarf which runs at about $38.

Homecoming Season is Here! October 5, 2009

show_image_in_imgtag.php-1hoco picture 2There is actually nothing like Cranbrook’s Homecoming, that’s the only way to lead into this article; nothing like it.  It is such a spectacle, if you have never been, make some friends at Cranbrook and GO, it is actually the most amazing homecoming in the area (trust me I’ve done the homework, and spent time at some pretty god-awful homecomings).  This homecoming is beyond comparable; the dresses, the people, the atmosphere before and after, just everything in general are nothing like any other homecoming.  This year the wardrobes were particularly enticing.  Many girls took risks with their dresses and chose something other than the ubiquitous satin overworked wrecks that I see so often which make my eyes burn…so thank you Cranbrook girls for choosing something different!  Many of the attendees chose sequins, which normally I am opposed to, yet they accomplished the look so stylishly with sleek straight hair and a pop of amazing shoe color that it was acceptable.  Best dressed award for the night, has to go to my friend Katy, and yes I am a little biased!  She paired a Temperley London dress with Lanvin large pearl earrings (both from Tender in Birmingham), and six inch high python monsters, they were un.believable; honestly on another level. img-thing-1

Oh, the music, totally forgot…It was fabulous as well.  The D.J. they hired played a HUGE range of music, from techno to even country (one song, but its still worth mentioning).  Also, people were actually dancing at this homecoming, like, everyone!  What a concept right?  Actually dancing at a school dance?  …it seems a little foreign to me.  It was such a blast, at the end of the night I felt more satisfied with my weekend evening than any other weekend.  Thanks CK!

THE September Issue! October 5, 2009

Filed under: Movies — ChrisRstyle @ 5:13 pm

TheSeptemberIssue

The September issue of American Vogue is one of the most influential pieces of literature to ever be published (probably THE most important in the world if I had to judge).  FINALLY, Hollywood realized this and created a movie that depicts the creation of this bible from start to finish.  Let me just tell you, this “phonebook” (as my mom calls it), does not just get thrown together over night.  Anna Wintour, the editor of Vogue, starts planning right after the previous September issue hits the newsstands.  After seeing the movie, TWICE, I would know, right? So embarrassing… I have come to three fabulous conclusions about this movie.

  1. Grace Coddington, creative director at Vogue, is a GOD.  Honestly, she is one of the most amazing visual artists ever.
  2. Do NOT mess with Anna Wintour.
  3. This was the BEST movie ever created!

GO SEE IT!  It was so absolutely fantastic. It captured the essence of the fashion industry perfectly and painted it in a very positive light!  For once!  I almost died.  Seriously, see it for yourself, you will not be disappointed!

Maalouf Salon October 5, 2009

feature-photo_173First blog post and I couldn’t be more excited!  Because I am obsessed with fashion, I am obsessed with Rachel Zoe.  Affirmative, I live for that woman! My sister and I watch her show on Bravo “The Rachel Zoe Project” every Monday religiously. I got the amazing opportunity to interview, and party with Joey Maalouf (owner of Maalouf Salon in downtown Birmingham– it’s amazing, book an appointment, you won’t be disappointed), Rachel Zoe’s fabulous makeup artist. I. Met. Him.  It was otherworldly.  I was honestly freaking out on the day of the interview, I was actually shaking, he’s a HUGE deal.  Joey was very down to earth and friendly.  He gave me advice on how Birmingham teens can adapt the trends into our everyday wardrobe.  He said, “If you see a leather jacket you like online from Balenciaga this season, try to find one similar at H & M and rock it,” he said, “Looking at runway looks, you are basically looking at art, so you don’t want to copy the look, you want to make it your own.  So editing is key!”  Couldn’t have said it better myself!  He also stressed in such difficult economic times, accessories are important to spend your money on this season because classic purses and scarves never go out of style. I returned to Maalouf later with my friend Julia, to check out the makeup party Joey returned to town to appear at.  The party was great, a little old for me, yet still fun!  Techno music blasting, makeup everywhere, television and press cameras flashing from every corner, and chocolate strawberries and champagne at every tray. What can I say?  All in all it was a fabulous day.

Thank you Maalouf! 10416_172451922017_594717017_3737332_6167656_n

ChrisHello new followers!  My name is Christopher and I am a Birmingham teen who is absolutely obsessed with fashion, to the point of it being unhealthy.  Style and fashion are areas that are exploding in interest among Birmingham teens, which for us means…shopping, shopping, dressing and finally style.  I have been obsessed with trends, labels, non labels, high fashion, cheap fashion, and everything in between for as long as I can remember.  It should come as no surprise that I am dying to share all of the info I live to discover with all of you in cyberspace.  From Adams to Inkster and beyond, a fashion explosion is taking place in the face of recession among teens and I can’t wait to cover all the bases of this wonderful industry and town!
