sherlock_holmes_movie_posteraSamlovesBham: Hey everybody! So, only 2 more weeks of hitting the books and then….winter break!!! You’ll have all the time in the world to do whatever you want, but what is there to do? Here are some suggestions:

-Window shopping! Grab a cup of hot chocolate from Starbucks or Zuma Cafe (formerly Java Hutt) and grab a friend for a walk among the beautiful holiday lights in Birmingham!

-Sledding! Birmingham has great parks, and when there is snow on the ground – which there will be – sledding can be loads of fun for EVERYBODY! I fully intend on grabbing my sled the second the ground is white.

-See a movie! Sometimes it’s just too cold to hang around outside, but there are some great movies coming out this holiday season! I personally am really excited to see Sherlock Holmes on Christmas.

-Enjoy the holiday perks! Come enjoy the Magic of Birmingham event on Dec. 10th and 17th to hear caroling, shop late, take a free carriage ride and maybe receive free gifts that are being handed out randomly all night!!

334279_ratio1x1_width180SamlovesBham: Hey everybody! For those of you who go to Seaholm or Groves, a new trimester starts this week! New trimester = new classes and new classes can sometimes require you to go buy new books! Whether you need a Spanish-English dictionary, or a new copy of an old classic, you can find it at Borders in Birmingham (it’s off of Woodward). Even if you don’t NEED a book, you may be a book lover like me and just WANT one :)  The Borders in Birmingham has books, music, movies, and more! It even has a cafe on the upper level, just in case you want to read a good book while sipping some hot cocoa (it’s getting cold outside)! So be sure to check it out!

swimmerSamlovesBham: The state meet for girls swimming was this weekend and our hometown teams (Seaholm and Groves) swam great! Groves finished in 6th place overall with 2 fantastic divers and some great races by their swimmers! Seaholm (Go Maples!) finished 4th overall, and all the girls on the team swam their best times, dove their best dives and had a blast! The relays were especially exciting, the medley relay of Kelsey, Calley, Megan, and Emily finished 6th (1.49.41!), the 200 free relay of Sam (me :D ), Melanie, Charlotte, and Emily finished 2nd (1.37.16!), and the 400 free relay of Sam (me again :D ), Alex, Melanie and Chelsea finished 3rd (3.33.2!). Great job to all the Birmingham swimmers and divers for a great season!! Want to watch it? Check out Michigan High School Hammertime on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday or Saturday this week (It’s on Fox Sports Detroit)!

SamlovesBham: The next movie in the Twilight saga, New Moon, premieres this Friday!!! I am SOOOO excited!!!!! (isn’t every teenage girl?)

If you read the books, you have to be excited to see it played out on screen by all the fantastic actors! If you didn’t read the books, then you are in for lots of surprises – New Moon is full of twists and turns in the plot! If you’ve seen the commercials, you know enough for me to say- get ready for A LOT more Jacob Black!!  AND, if you want to remember where it all started, Twilight is showing on opening night right before the premiere!!

LogoSo, you know that here in Birmingham there are great opportunities for entertainment! I LOVE going to the movies, but sometimes it is even more fun to go see a play! The Village Players of Birmingham put on FANTASTIC plays with talented casts and amazing productions! I went with some friends to see “The Mousetrap” when it was playing, and we had a blast! images

Now they’re playing “Hello Dolly”, and coming soon in December their youth theater will be putting on “RENT” (I’m reeeeaalllly excited for that one, I actually know people who are in it)!

So, are you bored with the usual entertainment? Go see a play!! http://www.birminghamvillageplayers.com/VPSite/Welcome.html

I’m SO excited!!! Oh, and the best news yet is that Matinee Madness is BACK!!! It’s only $5 to see a movie Monday-Thursday in Birmingham (except on holidays and movie releases) before 8pm (but why would you be seeing a movie much later than that on a school night anyways, right?)
