SamlovesBham: Hey guys, it’s the holiday season and there’s only 1 day left until Christmas! Last minute shopping is the name of the game, so why not shop close to home in Downtown Birmingham? There’s stores with gifts for all ages! Shopping for a kid? Try Adventures In Toys where you can choose from loads of stuff from games to art kits (i got a tye-dye kit from there and i LOVED it)!

If you’re shopping for a girl, tweens especially (around 9-13), check out Claire’s because they always have great low prices on cute jewelery, and they have ideas for gifts under $10, $15, $20 and $25! Visit http://www.claires.com/atclaires.asp.
If you’re looking to shop for a teenage girl, Anthropologie has AWESOME gifts to choose from.
If you are looking for a teenage boy you can check out REVIVE – they have a their own holiday gift guide on their blog, http://revivemi.com/blog/ - and since I’m not a teenage guy, I’m going to trust their judgement!
Looking for your parents? There’s fantastic stuff at The Varsity Shop for any dad and if you go to a local highschool get him a t-shirt, sweatshirt, or baseball cap to support your teams!  DSC05853.JPG
If you’re looking for your mom, look no further than the Carol Lewis Day Spa and get her a gift certificate for a relaxing experience!
If you visit http://carollewisdayspa.com/newsletter.html, you can find out more about special deals, including one i found-they’ll put together a pretty gift basket for you for any price starting at $9.95! Have fun shopping everybody, and Happy Holidays!!

Dog Tags! December 18, 2009

Filed under: Birmingham Stores — ChrisRstyle @ 3:26 pm

DOG-TAGSChrisRstyle: I was at the mall the other day looking for things for Christmas, and I saw the person in line in front of me fork over fifteen hundred dollars for a David Yurman dog tag!  Oy vey, let’s be honest; as much as I love nice clothing, fifteen hundred dollars for a dog tag in a recession is a little excessive.  Why not go to Astrein’s in Birmingham and spend MUCH less on a dog tag that you can personalize! Choose from peace signs, hearts and more. Think about it as a responsible way to spend your money!

334279_ratio1x1_width180SamlovesBham: Hey everybody! For those of you who go to Seaholm or Groves, a new trimester starts this week! New trimester = new classes and new classes can sometimes require you to go buy new books! Whether you need a Spanish-English dictionary, or a new copy of an old classic, you can find it at Borders in Birmingham (it’s off of Woodward). Even if you don’t NEED a book, you may be a book lover like me and just WANT one :)  The Borders in Birmingham has books, music, movies, and more! It even has a cafe on the upper level, just in case you want to read a good book while sipping some hot cocoa (it’s getting cold outside)! So be sure to check it out!

Shades. Trunk. Show. November 10, 2009

Filed under: Birmingham Stores — ChrisRstyle @ 11:04 am

fr_barton_perreira-1Okay, so I know that I blogged about Shades a couple of posts ago, but Thursday night they had a spectacular event that I just must rave about.  For the Pierce Shopping night, Shades Optical hosted a trunk show which displayed all of the new styles of eyeglasses from designers such as Oliver Peoples, Paul Smith, Barton Perreira, etc.  I. Was. Drooling.

Their glasses buyer isChangeWillDoYouGood_OP actually out of this world.  They follow trends TO A TEE.  The team at Shades never ceases to amaze me with their incredible knack for choosing the most beautiful frames to sell to us, the humble consumers.  Oh but the event, they know how to host a party, amazing food, great music, fabulous people.  TO DIE FOR.

Cool Shades! October 23, 2009

Filed under: Birmingham Stores — ChrisRstyle @ 10:10 am

glasses_2This is a post for everyone that has eyes as bad as I do, or

lostglasses_03actually, anyone that uses glasses period.  If this applies to you, and trust me, by the end of this post you’ll wish it does, GO TO SHADES OPTICAL.  The team at Shades is second to none! Dr. Bill, the head honcho, is honestly the coolest man ever.  Marcia, the Chief Optical Guru, is my girl! Every time I go in for a new pair of glasses, her service is unbelievable…and I haven’t even begun to mention the glasses themselves! They have every designer optics brand you can think of:  Prada, Paul Smith, Chanel, Oliver Peoples, Mosley Tribes.  You name it, they have it.  Plus, glasses are an accessory that, when done right, can be an excellent investment!   Fabulous for a recession!  …which is my justification for continued visits.

Scarves, Scarves, Scarves! October 16, 2009

Okay, so I was thinking the other day, about how I am one of the select few people at Groves making use of one of the most brilliant accessories ever invented:  THE SCARF.  Please people; do not be afraid of scarves!  They are actually the easiest and most chic way to add a little somethin’ somethin’ to a really boring school outfit.  It just gives it that extra mmpf, you know?  Well, I went around Birmingham trying hard to find the best scarves at lots of different prices, here’s the A-list:

  • White beaded bottom scarf at Anthropologie – $58
  • Flash Accessories black and white flower patterned light knight scarf – $39
  • Lanvin large gray knit scarf at Tender – $435

For men, there were not many options.  Fortunately, there’s Roots, which carries an amazing plaid, light knit scarf which runs at about $38.
