SamlovesBham: Hey guys, it’s the holiday season and there’s only 1 day left until Christmas! Last minute shopping is the name of the game, so why not shop close to home in Downtown Birmingham? There’s stores with gifts for all ages! Shopping for a kid? Try Adventures In Toys where you can choose from loads of stuff from games to art kits (i got a tye-dye kit from there and i LOVED it)!

If you’re shopping for a girl, tweens especially (around 9-13), check out Claire’s because they always have great low prices on cute jewelery, and they have ideas for gifts under $10, $15, $20 and $25! Visit http://www.claires.com/atclaires.asp.
If you’re looking to shop for a teenage girl, Anthropologie has AWESOME gifts to choose from.
If you are looking for a teenage boy you can check out REVIVE – they have a their own holiday gift guide on their blog, http://revivemi.com/blog/ - and since I’m not a teenage guy, I’m going to trust their judgement!
Looking for your parents? There’s fantastic stuff at The Varsity Shop for any dad and if you go to a local highschool get him a t-shirt, sweatshirt, or baseball cap to support your teams!  DSC05853.JPG
If you’re looking for your mom, look no further than the Carol Lewis Day Spa and get her a gift certificate for a relaxing experience!
If you visit http://carollewisdayspa.com/newsletter.html, you can find out more about special deals, including one i found-they’ll put together a pretty gift basket for you for any price starting at $9.95! Have fun shopping everybody, and Happy Holidays!!

Dog Tags! December 18, 2009

Filed under: Birmingham Stores — ChrisRstyle @ 3:26 pm

DOG-TAGSChrisRstyle: I was at the mall the other day looking for things for Christmas, and I saw the person in line in front of me fork over fifteen hundred dollars for a David Yurman dog tag!  Oy vey, let’s be honest; as much as I love nice clothing, fifteen hundred dollars for a dog tag in a recession is a little excessive.  Why not go to Astrein’s in Birmingham and spend MUCH less on a dog tag that you can personalize! Choose from peace signs, hearts and more. Think about it as a responsible way to spend your money!

ChrisRstyle: Now, this blog post is going to be the most ridiculous, over the top, example of overindulgence thus far: a fantasy Christmas list for both men and women.  I will get right to it…

sherlock_holmes_movie_posteraSamlovesBham: Hey everybody! So, only 2 more weeks of hitting the books and then….winter break!!! You’ll have all the time in the world to do whatever you want, but what is there to do? Here are some suggestions:

-Window shopping! Grab a cup of hot chocolate from Starbucks or Zuma Cafe (formerly Java Hutt) and grab a friend for a walk among the beautiful holiday lights in Birmingham!

-Sledding! Birmingham has great parks, and when there is snow on the ground – which there will be – sledding can be loads of fun for EVERYBODY! I fully intend on grabbing my sled the second the ground is white.

-See a movie! Sometimes it’s just too cold to hang around outside, but there are some great movies coming out this holiday season! I personally am really excited to see Sherlock Holmes on Christmas.

-Enjoy the holiday perks! Come enjoy the Magic of Birmingham event on Dec. 10th and 17th to hear caroling, shop late, take a free carriage ride and maybe receive free gifts that are being handed out randomly all night!!

ChrisRstyle: Snow! I saw it again (up north, but that means its coming). Snow means skiing, skiing means ski clothes! Looking chic on the slopes is such a top priority for every skier, don’t even lie to yourself and say it’s not! We always want to look our best, right? Look at these fabulous options from Don Thomas:

334279_ratio1x1_width180SamlovesBham: Hey everybody! For those of you who go to Seaholm or Groves, a new trimester starts this week! New trimester = new classes and new classes can sometimes require you to go buy new books! Whether you need a Spanish-English dictionary, or a new copy of an old classic, you can find it at Borders in Birmingham (it’s off of Woodward). Even if you don’t NEED a book, you may be a book lover like me and just WANT one :)  The Borders in Birmingham has books, music, movies, and more! It even has a cafe on the upper level, just in case you want to read a good book while sipping some hot cocoa (it’s getting cold outside)! So be sure to check it out!

LMFAO!

LMFAO!

ChrisRstyle: On Friday, I had a religious experience…being just 10 feet away from LMFAO, Shwayze and the Paradiso Girls. I know, too much to handle, right?  However, I was disappointed with the attire on my fellow concertgoers! So let’s just say for lack of a better word, UNFASHIONABLE! A bikini, really NOT okay!

ChristmasLightsImage2SamlovesBham: The annual Birmingham Lighting ceremony is this Wednesday November 25th!! It’s from 6:00 – 8:00 pm on the steps of City Hall and even though it might be a little cold, there will be Chirstmas music and hot chocolate for everybody!! Come with friends or family, you can eat dinner in Birmingham and watch the city light up for the holiday season! I go every year with friends and family and always have a blast – it gets me excited for the MOST wonderful time of the year!!

Swimmin’ States November 23, 2009

Filed under: School Events — SamlovesBham @ 3:54 pm

swimmerSamlovesBham: The state meet for girls swimming was this weekend and our hometown teams (Seaholm and Groves) swam great! Groves finished in 6th place overall with 2 fantastic divers and some great races by their swimmers! Seaholm (Go Maples!) finished 4th overall, and all the girls on the team swam their best times, dove their best dives and had a blast! The relays were especially exciting, the medley relay of Kelsey, Calley, Megan, and Emily finished 6th (1.49.41!), the 200 free relay of Sam (me :D ), Melanie, Charlotte, and Emily finished 2nd (1.37.16!), and the 400 free relay of Sam (me again :D ), Alex, Melanie and Chelsea finished 3rd (3.33.2!). Great job to all the Birmingham swimmers and divers for a great season!! Want to watch it? Check out Michigan High School Hammertime on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday or Saturday this week (It’s on Fox Sports Detroit)!

Anthropologie updates the peacoat with corduroy & crinoline.

ChrisRstyle: Cold weather is here! I saw 32 on the temperature gauge this morning on the way to school, hmmm. As excited as I am for winter fashion, cold weather is NOT my thing. The best way to beat the cold is by putting on an intense winter jacket, here are some that take chic to the next level!

Skirted Peacoat – Anthropologie, $168

Buffalo Check Cocoon Coat – Roots, $128

Oversized buffalo check print in a contemporary silhouette from Roots.

Buffalo Check Cocoon Coat – Roots, $128

Rivington Melton Jacket – Roots, $198

And of course, it wouldn’t be a blog post from me if it didn’t include something from Tender - Joseph Nylon Parka, $685.
