Birmingham Historical Museum & Park

Our mission is to promote understanding of Birmingham's historical and cultural legacy through preservation and interpretation of its ongoing story.  We believe that by exploring meaningful connections with our past, we can enrich our community and enhance its character and sustainability.

Visitors to our museum site will find two historic houses—the 1928 Allen House and the 1822 John West Hunter House.  The Allen House features changing exhibits that explore our community’s connections to its past, and the Hunter House is furnished in period antiques to tell the story of our pioneer settlement.  Both are included in admission to the museum.  The John West Hunter Park behind the museum has four acres in a natural setting adjacent to the Rouge River trail.  It includes a beautiful spring-fed lily pool, and public WiFi is available in the plaza between the Hunter and Allen Houses.

We also provide interesting public programs and activities.  For more information on our current events and our ongoing exhibits, visit our web page at www.bhamgov.org/museum, or call us at 248-530-1928. You’ll be surprised at what you find here at our museum, so check us out!
